Cost-effectiveness of three approaches to hysterectomy for benign uterine conditions: a multi centre randomized controlled trial
Summary
N/A
Objectives
To provide evidence on the optimal type of hysterectomy in terms of cost-effectiveness by way of a three arm randomised controlled trial between non descend vaginal hysterectomy, total laparoscopic hysterectomy and total abdominal hysterectomy.
1. To find out the time to recover after surgery (earliest time to resume all of the following activities; resumption of cooking, washing clothes, sexual activity and occupation) following TLH, NDVH and TAH.
2. To find out the operative time, post-operative hospital stay following TLH, NDVH and TAH.
3. To calculate the total cost per surgery from a societal perspective for TLH, NDVH and TAH.
4. To calculate the QALYs for each of the three types of hysterectomy at the end of one year.
5. To evaluate the urinary, sexual and bowel function following hysterectomy.
