Product launch of fruit fly controlling agent funded through the NRC Private-Public Partnership program


BASCA (Bactrocera Species Controlling Agent) – the first locally formulated pheromone to control the fruit fly, funded jointly by the NRC and CIC Crop Solutions Pvt Ltd, was launched on 3rd February 2016 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla, with the participation of representatives of the Department of Agriculture, National Research Council, Industrial Technology Institute and CIC Holdings PLC.

The project entitled “Formulation of a para-pheromone from local varieties of Ocimumsanctum for the control of fruit and melon flies” was presented by Dr. R.M. Dharmadasa, principal research partner of the Private-Public Partnership grant. The product will now be marketed locally, and there are plans to explore the export market.
