Objectives

  1. a) To identify new adsorbent material which can be used to remove heavy metals and synthetic dyes from aqueous systems and to investigate equilibrium and kinetics aspects of their removal. b) To remove selected heavy metals such as Cr(III), Cr (VI) and Pb(II) or synthetic dyes such as Indigo, Methylene Blue and Brilliant green from contaminated aqueous systems by selected adsorbents such as agricultural waste, invasive plants and minerals such as apatite and feldspar. c) To investigate the effect of experimental parameters on sorption equilibrium of the removal process. d) To determine adsorption isotherms and the desorption process of metals and synthetic dyes from loaded adsorbents. e) To determine the effect of experimental parameters on adsorption and desorption of heavy metals and synthetic dyes using an adsorbent column (dynamic conditions).
