Objectives

  1. a) To identify habitat heterogeneity and characterize major plant communities of the serpentine outcrops of Sri Lanka. b) To Determination the spatial distribution pattern of woody plant communities with respect to physical and chemical parameters of soil. c) Assessment of regeneration capacity of woody species in serpentine outcrops. d) Identification of potential metal hyperaccumulator plant species growing in the four selected serpentine sites. e) Isolation of heavy metal (e.g Ni) resistant bacterial and/or fungal species naturally occurring in serpentine soils. f) Determination of heavy metal (e.g. Ni) phytomining potential of a selected plant species identified from the serpentines.
